The Book Group was one of the first regularly scheduled events to spring out of the Shrinking Violets membership and has made for some extremely interesting and sometimes difficult conversations. Our selections have been chosen by vote and seem to fit no particular style or genre other than what feels right to the group at the time of choosing.
We’ve read books that challenge the status quo, those that make us laugh, some that cause us pause, many that stir lively conversation and a handful written by local Spokanites. Our meetings often take place at local coffee houses (in order to support local business) and sometimes at member’s homes. We follow no strict format yet always have a discussion leader who prompts the conversation with questions and reminders of the main themes and contexts of the story.
Anyone is welcome, no personal invite is necessary and everyone should know it is an extremely safe environment to show up by yourself; many friendships have been forged this way.
The Book Club’s regular meeting date is the 1st Thursday of every month, the location to be announced.
Upcoming reads:
February- The Help by Kathryn Stockett March- All Over Creation by Ruth Ozeki April- The Wind-Up Chronicles by Haruki Murakami

Caw Caw Caw. Excuse the shameless self promotion, but my latest novel has just been born, coincidentally on my 75th birthday. I would be honored if your club chose it for discussion sometime in the future.
Sincerely,
Ted Sabine
